Who can take part?
This community is for schools who have completed a year of delivering Mastering Number lessons in Reception and KS1. If you have participated in a previous cohort and not yet participated in an Embedding the Impact cohort, you are welcome to join.
Each school will identify one lead teacher (usually the Maths Lead) to engage in the further training and support and will continue to have access to the full resources and training videos to share with staff as needed.
What is involved?
Lead teachers (usually the Maths Lead) attend 2 locally-led training sessions focused on supporting embedding the impact of Mastering Number in the second year of delivery.
In addition, to support new resources being launched for Year 3 teachers, the lead teacher will also be invited to two NCETM-led online training sessions (Autumn and Spring terms) with a particular focus on how to support Year 3 teachers to use the teaching materials provided for pupils in KS2.
There is an expectation that schools will continue to provide a daily teaching session for all children of 10 to 15 minutes, in addition to their normal maths lesson. For 2026-27, the NCETM are launching a full Reception curriculum and participants of the Embedding the Impact community will be given access to these new resources.
For Year 3 teachers in participating schools, it is expected that they will teach a 10-15 minute fluency session, four days a week, using the new teacing materials provided.
The Lead Teacher will also contribute to an online community to share practice and engage in critical reflection.
What will you learn?
- You and your school leaders will build on the learning of the first year of involvement to embed and sustain the practice in future years
- You will work with colleagues to better understand how the Mastering number resources can enhance teaching.
- Your pupils will show confidence in exploring additive relationships
- Your pupils will make good progress towards the Early Learning Goals and year group expectations.
What is the cost?
The Embedding the Impact of Mastering Number Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is provided completely free to participating state-funded schools.
What should you do next?
If you joined the programme in 2025/26 you will be automatically added to this Work Group for 2026/27.
If you are a Cohort 1-5 school who has not yet participated in the Embedding the Impact phase of the programme, please contact us to join (subject to availability).
