Who can take part?
These programmes are designed for primary teaching assistants who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths.
What is involved?
A programme to ensure Teaching Assistants have the necessary understanding & skills to work with classroom teachers in raising the Maths attainment of children they support.
This programme will see the introduction of Primary Teaching Assistant specific materials and focus on the following mathematical areas which complement our Primary Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics for Teachers programme.
- What is effective in the learning and teaching of mathematics?
- Number sense
- Additive reasoning
- Multiplicative reasoning
- Fractions
As with all our Work Groups, participants will conduct activities back in their own schools and share with this collaborative learning group.
What will you learn?
- You will review your practice as a result of the sessions and make specific adaptations to support the pupils you are working with
- You will understand the key elements that form number sense, forms of addition and subtraction, forms of multiplication and division, and forms of fractions, including precise language, structures and representations
- Your pupils will demonstrate a positive attitude towards maths, being willing to have a go, persevere, and share their mathematical ideas
What is the cost?
The SKTM Primary TA Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is provided completely free to participating state-funded schools.
Where & when?
The programme runs for 4 day across the year, face-to-face. Location/dates tbc.
