Who can take part?

Participation is for schools that have in previous years, participated in a Developing/Embedding or Sustaining Teaching for Mastery Work Group  (or  where a Mastery Specialist has completed their training whilst establishing teaching for mastery in their own school). Lead participants continue to be the Mastery Advocates who have participated in previous years plus the opportunity for participation from key teachers from the school’s maths department. 

What is involved?

Teaching for Mastery and its continued development within a school has shown to have a significant and positive impact on pupil progress and gained significant recognition in the latest OFSTED subject report.
The Teaching for Mastery Work Groups provide ongoing collaborative professional development for Secondary maths departments, to support sustaining teaching for mastery approaches over time.

We are very aware that each school has its unique strengths and challenges and  we hope that our programme is able to deliver elements of what your school needs, when you need it!   Our model for 2026-27 has been developed to offer schools a choice of foci for departments, to best suit their needs.

It is intended that each Work Group provides a vibrant professional learning community:

  • to enable schools to continue to reflect upon and develop teaching for mastery approaches in their own school
  • giving participants the support and professional challenge from colleagues from other schools.

In addition, we plan to offer some bespoke themed sessions open to your wider departmental team.   As always, to ensure that you benefit most from the programme every school’s Subject / Curriculum lead are encouraged to actively participate in the Secondary Subject Leaders Community at 3 events across the year, to support fidelity of teaching for mastery across departments.

 

What is the cost?

The Secondary Teaching for Mastery Work Groups are fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so provided free to participating schools.
